Now this is awkward.

Received this from the Potomac Nationals via facebook:

Are you single and looking for love?

Then join us Thursday May 17th for date an intern night at the Pfitz! We will be playing the dating game throughout the evening to see what lucky male or female will win an all expenses paid date with one of our four interns.

If you’re interested in being one of our lucky contestants email Zach Prehn at ZPrehn@PotomacNationals.com, include a photo and short bio of yourself and what intern you have the hots for.

If you are selected you will receive 2 free tickets to that evenings game.

Either way, I nominate Bobby Metzinger for Kristen. Or Brett. (Bobby likes fireworks.)

Another Class Action Lawsuit (Apple)

I received another email today about a purchase I made that makes me eligible for a class action lawsuit. As you may remember, I thought the one with Weber Grills was “bullshit.”

CNN covered this, and the webpage for the lawsuit is here.

Here’s a redacted version of the email I received:

Apple Law Suit

In looking at the claims, I think they’re a little bold — I mean, come on — “The lawsuit claims that the software updates caused iPod prices to be higher than they otherwise would have been.” Far fetched? Probably, but a lot more legitimate, than say — the Weber suit. The other claim is a little more serious: “The lawsuit claims that Apple violated federal and state laws by issuing software updates in 2006 for its iPod that prevented iPods from playing songs not purchased on iTunes.”

I haven’t decided if I will opt out yet. I am not a fan of Apple for their horrible customer service and shoddy computers. Likewise, I generally dislike class-action lawsuits. The question is which do I hate less, and is staying in one worth the probably $5-20 I would get?

Political Humor — New Deal 2.0 & School Prayer

bomble, Cleveland, Politics / No Comments

Sent to me from Cleveland by my Mom. The funny/sad part is, Eva Wimmer is not kidding. Apparently this was a real advertisement published in The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Note to you Conservative activists on the campaign trail (and liberals) — not all Evangelists are Conservatives. Some are kooky Socialists looking to bring back the New Deal, and still want prayer in schools.

The Wussification of American Sports

Today, The Washington Post asked facebook followers the following:

Classless? Yes. Classic Philly behavior? Yes. Suspension? No.

I mean, come on. Really? However, just like WTOP talk back line callers I heard this morning — people think this should be a crime.

To the unreasonable comments:

Joshua Henderson Harper should be able to press charges.

Nolan Lemon If he actually admitted to purposely hitting a person with a 93 mph pitch, he unwittingly confessed to assault and battery.

There’s little diffence between that and a batter walking up to the mound and hitting a pitcher with a baseball bat. It’s violent. It’s battery, and there’s no place in the game for that. And (not that is matters) it was the FIRST INNING!!!

He should be suspended for at least the season. Players have been suspended for longer periods for much less.

Dickson Kendrick Yes. Absolutely he should.

I don’t think throwing at batters should typically be a suspendable offense. But, a crime? That is a stretch. My response to the most egregious post:

‎@Nolan — should people who fight in hockey, including kids, be hauled off to jail rather than the penalty box? Society needs to grow a pair.

That’s my conclusion: Society needs to grow a pair.

Dewey & LeBoeuf — WARN time

Best of THE SCRAPBOOK this week:

As a matter of politics, this strikes THE SCRAPBOOK as both tone deaf to real problems and condescending to women. Not to mention being a caricature of liberalism: “After years of contributing to Social Security, [Julia] receives monthly benefits that help her retire comfortably, without worrying that she’ll run out of savings. This allows her to volunteer at
a community garden.”

Seriously? We’re supposed to delight in younger workers’ toiling and sweating to bankroll an actuarial blackhole so Julia can volunteer in a community garden? The reality is that without Social Security reform, which Obama has steadfastly
avoided, Julia will see Social Security benefits that help her “retire comfortably” about the time hell becomes a skating rink for disadvantaged youth.

Common Cause Exploiting Trayvon Martin Tragedy

Posted by Jim on May 07, 2012
bomble, Politics / No Comments

Today on Metro, I was reading this week’s edition of Bloomberg Businessweek and was utterly stunned when I came across this paragraph:

In April, Common Cause sent a tax whistleblower complaint to the IRS, claiming ALEC is a lobbying group and seeking to strip its nonprofit status. Common Cause spokeswoman Mary Boyle says the group had been waiting for months for the right moment to lodge its complaint. “The Trayvon Martin thing was like a gift,” she says.

Common Cause is a lefty group that doesn’t like ALEC, a conservative group that educates State legislators and provides them with draft legislation — including the oft-misunderstood “Stand Your Ground Law” that you probably only know about because of the Trayvon Martin Tragedy.

Random aside: Did you know that uber liberal (and former Canadian) Gov. Granholm of Michigan who is now retired, decried the bill on television but signed it into law when she was Governor?

I almost fell out of my seat — the death of Trayvon Martin was like a gift? Seriously? I don’t see how anyone can read this an interpret in any way other than that Common Cause is exploiting the death of Trayvon Martin.

Shameless.

P.S. — Feel free to tweet/email/call Mary Boyle your thoughts.

JimSwift.net is getting an Upgrade

Friends, if you come to the site at all this weekend and things look funky — worry not. I have been tinkering with a new theme and a full upgrade to the site’s capability.

It will be cleaner, cooler, and look like less of a hodgepodge of random stuff on the sides. I think you’ll enjoy it.

Here is a sneak preview.
